The Pinhole Camera Workshop for Children introduces young learners to photography through making, observation, and image development.

Led by Mrinal Bahukhandi, this workshop helps children build their own simple pinhole cameras using everyday materials such as a mobile phone box or similar small box structure. Through this process, participants understand how a basic camera can be made with minimal materials while still capturing light and image.

Beyond camera making, the workshop takes children deeper into the photographic process by introducing negatives and positives. Participants explore how images are formed, recorded, and translated, helping them understand photography as a step-by-step process rather than instant capture.

This workshop makes photography tactile and thoughtful. Children not only build a working image-making device, but also begin to understand the relationship between light, surface, exposure, and development.

What children explore:

• Building a pinhole camera from a simple box

• How pinhole photography works

• The difference between negatives and positives

• Image development as a process

• Photography through slow, hands-on experimentation
