What Happens When You Mix Bird Behaviour With Circuits?

When you use conductive materials and LEDs to understand how these species navigate, see, and survive? When engineering becomes storytelling?

This weekend workshop blends paper engineering, bird science, and hands-on learning in a way you've never experienced. You'll build optical illusions to understand how birds perceive motion. You'll create working circuit cards inspired by how they sense invisible fields. You'll engineer pop-ups that reveal the mechanics of wings and flight.

By Sunday, you're in the field listening to the real architects. Your hands will know paper differently.

Three Days. Three Ways to Learn.

This is an interactive learning experience designed for kids 7–15 across three skill levels. Whether you're a beginner stepping into hands-on activities for the first time, or advanced at building and troubleshooting — we have a place for you.

SKILL LEVELS

We structure every activity for three learning abilities. Beginner (7–9), Intermediate (10–12), Advanced (13–15). You choose your level. We meet you there.

WHAT YOU'LL MAKE THIS WEEKEND

Friday 12 June | Paper Motion Optical illusions that spin and trick the eye. Learn how movement works. Thaumatropes, lenticulars, phenakistoscopes — paper mechanisms that reveal how birds perceive motion differently than humans. Take home your creation.

Saturday 13 June | Paper Circuit Build a working circuit card in this hands-on STEM learning session. Conductive tape. LEDs. Electricity that glows. Understand circuits the way birds sense invisible magnetic fields. Finish it. Take it home. It works.

Sunday 14 June | Paper Mechanics Pop-ups and folds that reveal how wings work. Paper engineering at its finest. Engineer something with multiple movements. It's yours to keep.

Sunday Morning | Field Station An interactive birding activity at dawn. Listen. Observe. Journal with prompts to capture what you notice. The real architects in their element.
