Young Creators Programme at The Doon School
The Young Creators Programme at The Doon School, curated by EarthLab Club, is built on a simple idea: learning happens best through doing.
Designed to move beyond traditional classroom models, the programme brings together science, design, technology, and media into a series of hands-on, interdisciplinary workshops. Students don’t just learn concepts — they test, build, question, and create, turning knowledge into experience.
Across sessions, the programme creates a space where curiosity leads the process, and learning becomes active, collaborative, and deeply engaging.
Where Curiosity Met the Earth: Tactile Geology
Led by Dr. Swapnamita Choudhary from the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, this workshop took students through Earth’s geological history in a tactile and immersive way.
Students examined real rock samples and fossils, explored the geological time scale, and understood processes such as mantle convection and fossil formation. Discussions extended into imagining future fossils and understanding how Earth’s past connects to the present.
From Wires to Waves: Building Paper Speakers
In this hands-on physics workshop led by Clifford Prince (Research Fellow, IIRS), students explored sound and electromagnetism by building their own paper speakers.
Using simple materials like paper, copper wire, and magnets, participants created working devices that demonstrated how electrical signals convert into sound. The session brought abstract concepts like vibration and induction into tangible form.
Looking Up: The Astronomy Experience
Led by astronomer Siddharth Trivedi, this session connected space science with Earth systems through immersive experiences.
Students explored planetary scales through the Solar Walk and engaged with celestial concepts inside a VR dome environment. The workshop linked astronomy with geology, helping students understand planetary evolution, the formation of the Himalayas, and the origins of life.
Voices That Matter: Podcasting for the Future
In this media workshop led by Naved Farooqui and Yash Nath Jha, students explored podcasting as a form of storytelling and expression.
From scripting and structuring to recording and sound design, participants created original podcast episodes. They learned how tone, pacing, and audio layering shape how stories are heard, understanding that podcasting is not just about speaking, but about engaging listeners.
DIY Projections: Drawing with Light
Led by Ansh Kumar, this workshop introduced students to light, optics, and visual storytelling through hands-on making.
Participants built simple projectors using everyday materials and transformed their drawings into projected visuals. The session explored how light interacts with surfaces, turning static sketches into dynamic, living images.
Why This Programme Matters
The Young Creators Programme shifts learning from passive absorption to active exploration.
By working across disciplines — from geology and physics to media and design — students develop not only conceptual understanding but also skills in problem-solving, collaboration, and creative thinking.
Each workshop is designed to connect theory with practice, allowing students to test ideas, make mistakes, and build confidence through doing.
At its core, the programme encourages students to become creators — to question, experiment, and engage with the world in a more meaningful way.
Bring the Young Creators Programme to your school and create a space where students learn by doing, building, and creating.
